I’ve thought up a solution to your Jeep problem. If a Jeep isn’t fuel efficient enough to replace yours or your wife’s commuter car, and you won’t get rid of the Dodge for sentimental reasons.
A JK Unlimited has a 1" longer wheelbase compared to your Ram. So you could take the Ram body and put it on a JK chassis. Which means you now have modern brakes, steering, and suspension (and power if you also swap the motor). Then you’d have a offroad truck you can use to explore, and can go on trips with your dad.

2" for only 34s? Should be putting 37s on.

He wants it to look fairly stock still

Looking good. 35's would be perfect on a 2" lift though.

I applaud the tire size choice, sounds like this JL will get driven everyday and probably enjoyed more for it . Too often someone jumps straight to the ‘ biggest/best’ only to find out that particular modification isn’t so great to live with for one reason or another.
A lot of people have to live with only one vehicle which means making both compromises and sacrifices when it comes to modifications . Use what works best for you.

33-35s are a lot more usable to anyone who needs it to perform on road. I presume he would need to regear for 37s to keep some modicum of acceleration

Well, the black J eep’s owner is a ham , so he’s probably an expert at spending money on equipment.
